Introduction
About this Recipe
The origin of this recipe comes from England during the World War II. It was a really simple and quick recipe as English people had to do with what they had, at this time, to eat. So, they created this simple recipe composed of a dough made from flour, some sugar and some fat, as they didn’t have eggs. To add some sprinkle in this, they placed some fruits they could find in their garden on the bottom.
The most common is using apple for this recipe, but you could completely change it and try other fruits. For example, nectarine could be a really nice alternative if you want to bake one during springtime !
It’s what I like the most with pastry; you can create so many recipes !
I decided here to propose to you an individual version, but you could completely double or triple the quantity to make a bigger plate for your guests.
Find here the links to the material I used in my recipes.
Ingredients
- 2 apples
- 2 tbsp (30g) of white sugar
- 1/2 stick (50g) of butter
- 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp (50g) of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (50g) of almond powder
As for each recipe, you can find different ways of doing it. I gave you here my version with the quantity I’m used to baking.
According to my family’s taste, I could sometimes add some spices, like cinnamon, in my dry ingredients to add different flavors.
Try your mix, and find the one that works the best for you and your family.
I also advise you to try once to place a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the top of your warm crumble. It’s just splendid !
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Preheated your oven at 210°C (410°F). Peel and slice the apples in pieces. You don’t need them to be perfect.
Place them in your individual ramekin and place it aside. (If you want to bake a larger apple crumble, you could double or triple the quantity and use a large baking pan.)
Step 2
Place the butter in pieces directly on your worktop or in a mixing bowl.
Add the sugar, the almond powder and the flour.
Step 3
Mix with your hands the ingredients until you create a sort of sand texture with the preparation.
Sprinkle it on the top of your apples already in your pan.
Step 4
Place your pan in your oven preheated for around 30min. You want the top of the crumble golden and the apple melt-in-the-mouth.
Step 5
When it’s cook, you could directly enjoy !
Tasting advice
It’s always better to eat a crumble just warm. So, if you decided to prepare it a while ago before eating it, just warm it up a little bit in the oven before serving.
